How do you calculate GPA?

I have heard many different answers on how to calculate your GPA. Say I get a 95 in a class. Would that be a 3.5? Or would it be a 4? And also, how does the weighting affect it; is it just adding 1 to the number? This is based off a 4 point system I believe. Thanks

Each class is worth a certain number of credits. Multiply the credits by the grade (A=4,B=3, etc.) and divide by the total number of credits.

Whether a 95 is an A depends on your school. Most places it is an A. Some schools have A+ that is worth more than 4. Some schools have A- and B+ that are worth different amounts. Some schools give extra points for AP classes.

The bottom line is that there is no standard, and that GPA cannot be used to compare students at different schools. It can only be used to rank students within a school.
