How do I speed up my studying?

I’ve recently transfered from a school with short, simple portions to a school with a lot of detailed portions and way more subjects. Since i am so used to studying something little …im still studying the same way with my portions here and I normally dont finish studying everything… and Im totally failing!!

Im not a bad student or whatever because what i do study is very thourough (ie, what i writein my test is full and correct). My point is that im not fast enough to finsih studying everything so I dont know many answers in the exam. So i need to at least get decent marks right now. all my class mates tell me that they can finish a chapter in two hours and I finish 3 pages in that time.

I need to learn how to speed up and learn everything roughly rather than learning things slowly and thouroghly… pls dont tell me to study everday because my quaterly exams are coming up in two weeks (they’re like mid terms). Thx a lot

In general, read a chapter once to get a quick overview. preferrably, read it in advance so you know in class what they talk about. Next time, read the chapter and highlite the main points. Make flash cards you can take along and study while you wait somewhere or on the bus. Do your homework. And if there is info you dont understand, try to reorganize it so you understand it. Sounds like more work but it really isnt. And if you have the opportunity, go to a lab or join a study group.

The fact is, in 2 hours you read 3 pages.

Your reading& comprehension skills suck. Somewhere/sometime you missed the boat when it came to reading. You must of been playing hookey. Now it has come back to bite you in the butt.

There is no trick here. In the beginning when you first started to learn to read, you had a dictionary beside you to look up the words you did not know in the sentence before you carried on to read the entire sentence. That word you looked up stays with you a long time so the next time you see it in a sentence(no need to look it up for you remember. So your reading gets faster.

Sentence structure remains basically the same thru all sentences written. You start to skim read picking out the adjectives, nouns and the verbs. And you can get the general idea of the story, more than enough to understand what is going on.

What I am saying is that your classmates may be just as thurough as you and they have read that much more.

You should have known you had a problem the last grade. No one can fix this but you.

My first thought is to have a one on one discussion with your teacher. Tell him what is up(where you come from, the type of teaching they did there and what you are finding to be harder for you here.)

Don’t worry about what your friends might think. That is irrelevant. They are not your life.

But don’t sluff off the suggestion either. Teachers are problem solvers….and face it…..your ability to learn is a problem. By no means do I suggest that you can “goof off”,once the teacher clears you for something different. He is just trying to bring you up to speed as the rest of the class.

Tough. Yeah, it will be tough, but it will be your chance to get ahead for “yourself”.Looking out for Number1.
