How can I study a complex subject by myself?

I’m studying investing all by myself and it’s really overwhelming. I don’t know exactly what to focus on first and how to go from there. Do you know if there’s something like a generic study plan that can help me learn faster and smarter?

Start with one good general overview book such as William Bernstein’s “The Four Pillars of Investing.” That will give you a good introduction to the terminology and the basics of investing. From there you can branch off to other books that get into more of the specifics that you found interesting–start with books that the first book uses for references.

Be careful out there too–it’s easy to get caught in the quagmire of “get rich quick” investing information. If a book or website promises you millions within weeks or months, chances are it’s going to be telling you to take huge risks with money you may not be able to afford to lose. These will definitely waste your time (and money) quickly.

How about trying to use your time more in studying rather than doing other extra curricular activities. I use to do that and it seems to work. ;D
