If these are the reasons you are wanting to be a nurse you should not persue that job. I would not want a nurse helping me whose goal was to buy a nice car have a big house and a nice life style. You become a medical professional because you want to help sick people and make them better. get a job in the stock market if you want money.

My wife is an RN and it has made a big impact on our lives. But, in order to make a decent living, you must specialize. She started out in the OR and moved to the CVOR and now works in the Cardiac Cath Lab. She will pull down about $90,000 this year. Now realize that she also takes call and must be available to get to the hospital in less than 30 minutes if paged. So there is a tradeoff. But it is worth it. It has drastically changed our socio-economic status and given us the freedom to go and do many of the things that we want to do. And, an added benefit is that she is indeed helping people.
