work at an animal shelter. volunteer at the hospital. do anything that interests you, i swear it’ll make the time worth it and you’ll want to keep doing it.

since when do high schools make you do community service? what kind of school do you go to?

I definitely reccommend doing something you enjoy. I had volunteered in various places but I found the hospital to be the most fun. Also if you have any career interests, its best to look into those.

Finding the actual volunteer oportunites may be more tough but ask around locally because I’m sure people wouldn’t mind the free help. If not go to your school’s career center, they usually have volunteer postings up there.

Also another place is online. There is a volunteering website called volunteermatch.org that really helps as well. If possible, volunteering abroad would be the most fun. Good luck!

the high school where I live does the same thing. 40 hours of community service before you graduate. Sometimes school activities count. If you are in band and you volunteer for something, that would go toward your hours. But think about volunteering at a hospital, a hospice, a retirement community, a community center, a nursing home, pet shelter, library… well, the list goes on. good luck.

I did lots of stuff around my school like volunteered at the track meets and homecoming and stuff.

We also have a club called Junior Civitan dedicated solely to volunteering.

One way that I got 40 hours in the best week of my life was when I went on a little camp called Catholic Heart Work Camp. You go with your church or a group big enough and have the best time of your life doing service work and meeting some of the most interesting people you will ever have the pleasure of knowing.

Do whatever you want to.

Like working outdoors? Contact the parks and rec in your city or a youth corps. Like working with animals? Contact the animal shelter. Is grandma in a retirement center? See about volunteering there to read or entertain or something. Like to read? See about reading to little kids. Like music? Contact your local symphony orchestra office and see if they need any help. Are you good in a particular subject? Look into peer tutoring at your school. Interested in how social services work? Contact the Department of Human Services office and look into volunteering at the welfare office, or find the local food bank and help out there. Like working with computers? Contact any nonprofit or public service agency and ask if they need any help in their IT (Information Technology) department. Want to gain office skills? Ask any of the places listed above if you could volunteer in their office.

You can volunteer at pretty much any place you want – although sometimes your school will require that it be someplace that provides a public service of some sort. Plus, your school should have a counselor or coordinator who has a list of volunteer sites where you could go that are already set up.
