Yes, but you need to read a variety of materials. Step outside your norms, try some of the classics. Not all classic books are 1000 pages long. War of the Worlds, Treasure Island, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. These are all short novels and are they are really good. Also try getting into a series of books like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Even if you don’t understand every word it is OK. Stretching yourself is how you grow, just keep reading.

Reading gives you more information to work with so you can make more informed decisions and express better informed opinions. Reading exposes you to ideas you have never heard of and places you have never been, so it can expand your mind and your awareness of the world around you. Therefore, reading does make you smarter– but only if you do something with the information you gain from it.

Yes and no. It won’t make you textbook smarter, but it allows you to be able to comprehend what you read better. Reading and understanding what you read will help you learn easier. So, yes, reading makes you smarter.

It makes you smarter than watching the same thing on TV as you are entering the words into your vocabulary and you will be more likely to remember it .
Your vocabulary will expand and you definately will become more articulate .
More than just laying in bed watching Oprah, Tyra. and ellen while drinking coffee and stuffing cakes and buscuits. ….you know you do.!

I think so….I’ve been reading all my life and recently took an IQ test. I found out my IQ is above normal.
Even reading fiction and poetry can help you improve your vocabulary and language usage.
Books are awesome.

reading fiction may give u random facts about random things. thats useful sometimes…reading is how u learn.
bios – help with going thru life (somtimes)
non fiction – perfect for 1 subject
horror – plain entertainment
mystery – sharpens memory
