Does anyone here do (or know someone who does) Occupational Therapy?

Do you enjoy it? How would you describe this career?

Thanks!

Hi, I just finished my academic work in OT and I’m almost finished with my 2nd (last) internship. I’ll be taking my license exam this fall.

Believe it or not, you ask two difficult questions! Do I enjoy it? So far, yes, I enjoyed my 1st internship and I’m enjoying my 2nd one now. Some of my classmates, though, are not as thrilled as I am. But I wouldn’t say that’s because they won’t like their eventual job, it’s just that OT can be some many different things! An OT might work with people who have physical disabilities, like paralysis, or who have psycho-social, like schizophrenia. You could wind up working in a rehab hospital, a psychiatric hospital, or in a school helping kids with learning disabilities or autism, or even at a senior center or other community organization. One of the cool things about the profession is that you can work in one area, and if you decide you don’t like it or are tired of it, you can develop expertise in a different area. I think by the time you finish your academic work you’ll be interested in so many different areas you won’t know which one to try first!! Another plus is that there is high demand for OTs. I’ve been offered jobs at both of my internship sites!

How would I describe this career? Well… you can tell by my previous paragraph that it is a wide field, and that makes it difficult to describe. Probably the best thing to say is that you can really make a difference in people’s lives, but it’s up to you to figure how you’re going to do it. Many OTs are trying new things out – you can blaze your own trail. A more standard answer would be, if you were working at a rehab hospital, you would likely be working with people who have had a CVA (stroke), hip replacement, traumatic brain injury, or maybe severe cardiac/respiratory illness, and you would be helping them to re-learn how to live their lives within new limits placed on their abilities. They say that Physical Therapy helps to get people moving again, but Occupational Therapy helps people “get a life” again – find new meaning when they can no longer be themselves. Very rewarding!

rub down medical care merely leads to being a rub down therapist. maximum rub down therapists set up their very own business enterprise or detect a job in a spa, health facility, well being facility or another place. actual therapists on occasion use rub down medical care. i’m not as specific approximately occupational therapists. rub down is frequently fairly a 2d occupation for many as you could purely fairly do approximately 20 massages a week with the aid of actual demands on your physique. the accepted age for rub down therapists is 40 5 so rub down colleges are geared in direction of coaching adults.
