Do you think its right to spank a 18 or 19 year old senior in school? please read the description.?

Well i recently moved out here to Somerset Kentucky, and as i was instructed to read over the school handbook. Im 18 about to finish up my senior year. and as I was going through the handbook i came across this.

It is entitled

“Corporal Punishment”

Which the book defines as “Punishment Administered with a Paddle to the buttocks of a student”

Is it me or does this sound way out of line! This book is basicly telling me that the school, and or staff has the right to spank my butt. What is wrong with these people!

Just stay out of trouble and you won’t have anything to worry about. If you do get in trouble be prepared to bend over and take it.

Well, Philip, I guess it is YOUR butt, now that you are 18. Before, it belonged to your folks!!

Have you ever had your butt spanked or paddled? If not, then this may be the opportunity to find out what you have been missing all your life!

Most schools, if they paddle, I think they limit it to maybe 3 or 5 whacks …. there might be a school or two that still give seniors 10 whacks. Even that shouldn’t be much compared to what dads do to their kids’ backsides!!

Anyway, if you are finishing up your senior year, and you are at a new school, can’t you just behave, be a “model” student, and not get your butt spanked? What is wrong with that? Or what is wrong with taking a few whacks?

If the school still has the right to paddle 16 & 17 year olds, then would it be fair that they not paddle an 18 year old just because that person is no long a minor? I guess in a way the school is paddling the 17 year old (a minor) with the parent’s permission/consent. It seems only fair to me that 17 year olds and 18 year olds should have to obey the same rules (and get the same punishments). Since you are 18 (have reached your ‘majority’) then they would paddle you with your permission/consent. Perhaps even legally they could only paddle you with your permission; however likely they could expel you if you set a different standard for yourself — like, if you and a 17 year old disobey a school rule, and the 17 year old gets a few whacks, then why shouldn’t you also?

???

And what about the Colleges in Kentucky? Do they have similar practices?

Just because it’s in the handbook doesn’t mean that it’s still practiced…I would look at the copyright date. The thing may not have been updated since the 50s or 60s.

Also, if you’re 18, they probably wouldn’t be able to uphold it. The basis of the law is that it is used on minors, similar to a parent spanking a child.

It is legal, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll actually do it. I’d talk to other kids in the school and see what the actual stance on it is.

It is probably more common than you think and less common than it should be. I was spanked by both of my parents until I was finished with college at age 23. I wouldn’t trade the way I was raised for anything, and I still have a very close and loving relationship with my parents (they’re both 80 and I’m 50). My kids know that I was spanked all the way through college, and they fully expect the same. Our family is a lot closer, and we spend a lot more time together, than many.

In some schools corporal punishment is still given because they feel that your are still a minor and in their eyes if you are old enough to know better you are old enough to accept the consequences for your actions. Think about it some young adults still get whipped by their parents if they mess up in school, or worst.Getting those few licks from school would be nothing compared to what you would get at home.

Chances are more than likely it’s an old handbook and rule that isn’t held up. There are some private schools that allow that. Since you are 18 you can sue for assault.

that school must be very conservative. that’s something that I would read about in a book by mark twain..ha

well, just wait until you graduate a move to a more modern school

as for the time being, at least theres no mention of dentention or suspension

…or is there?

you have moved to a very conservative area in the bible belt. once you graduate, run for the school board and change things.
