Do I need my HS diploma or GED to go to a 4 year college?

Ok, so as of right now, I’m attending a community college in Torrance, Ca.. I was thinking about transferring to a 4 year college. But, will I need my HS diploma or GED? I have neither. I’m 19 years old.

Get your GED it will make things much easier in the tranfer. Also when it comes to getting a job after you graduate. Plus it will make you feel better about your self. And I guess it all depends on where you live and where you want to go to school. My ex has a masters in history and he didnt finsh HS. But hes a teacher now and it was real hard for him to find a job.

As a general rule, no. Most respected colleges require either a diploma or a GED (or some equivalent). There MIGHT be a possible exception to this rule (well, two): first- a general college with a relatively poor ranking might allow you to enter based on grades for courses you have completed; or, some reputable colleges offer continuing education courses… you probably won’t be able to get a higher education degree from these, but you will be able to get certified college credit recognized by hiring companies. There is also the possibility that continuing education courses will provide you with a suitable equivalency rating for later admission to a degree program (the college will recognize the grades from courses that it offers). I would suggest speaking to college counselors responsible for continuing education programs, and see what they say.

if you want to start out at the 4 year you will need the high school diploma but you can start at a 2 year with your ged and them go to a 4 year after that

If you are already attending a community college, you may not need it.

Go to a counselor at your school and ask them.
