I wasn’t sure where to put this question so other suggestions on where to put it are appreciated also Thanks again! **********Alex**********

Ah, you’re an excellent candidate for some of the old sewing books at vintagesewing.info.

Here’s a starter for you, a text for public schools in the 1890s:

Many of the early materials by Mary Brooks Picken on this site assume hand sewing, also.

Don’t feel insulted if this seems dumb, but here goes:

You will need a needle and thread. You thread the needle (which has an eye at one end) then you can use a single strand of thread or you can use a double strand. Either way you will want to put a knot in the free end of the thread. You then line up the edges of the two pieces of material you wish to sew together (it helps to pin them together first) you push the needle through the fabric from one side to the other, then push the needle back through from the other side and pull the thread up snugly but not too tight or the fabric will pucker.

You can sew making one stitch at a time, or you can push the needle in and out of the fabric multiple times and then pull the thread through the fabric making a series of stitches all at once.

I would do an Internet search for “hand sewing instructions”. I think you might find quite a lot of info. You can also try websites like HGTV who cover a lot of subjects and who might have instructions you can print out. You might also try the pattern companies like Simplicity or McCall’s.

I haven’t sewn since Home Ec in junior high school years ago. I thought that this website had some good, basic information:
