College? What do you think?

I’m a writer, I’m in the process of publishing a few books, but once I graduate in five years, I want to go to Missouri University in Columbia, Mo, what degree do I want? Literature, journalism?

Journalism. You can study Literature while in college but major in Journalism. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Don’t quit your day job.”? Journalism would provide steady income and you could write on the side. Here’s wishing for a best seller!

I recommend evaluating both degree programing. Most colleges or universities have program advisement outlines that will help you get an idea of what classes you need to take. By evaluating these outlines you may be able to judge what program targets more of your interest, also you may be able to double major in both degrees if they compliment each other. Another good approach is meet with you counselor and an advisor at the university to fully understand the program and your options. Good Luck!

Either of those is fine (more literature than journalism though). You could even get a degree in english.

It depends on what kinds of books you write.

If you are intent on writing newspaper columns, non-fiction, or any type of investigative writing, journalism is a good bet.

Writing fiction? Literature, or Creative Writing if it’s a concentration.
