You need to be 18 to take the GED exams, or 17 if you have a letter from a prospective employer, school, or the military or if you are in jail. Here is the website for the California State Department of Education if you’d like to take a look for other additional requirements:

Also, there are no “required” courses that you need to complete to take the GED. Yes, there are prep classes you can take to help get yourself ready as the time you will be taking the test approaches, but you do not need to complete all (or really any for that matter) of your high school courses to get a GED. The GED is a general education diploma, which you obtain by taking a series of tests. High school level knowledge will be necessary to pass the GED tests, but you do not have to have high school credits or courses to get it. I got my GED in 2005 and the last year of school I completed was 9th grade. The point is that you will need to do a lot of studying to be able to pass the tests when you can take them.

Everyone’s circumstances are different, and only you know the reasons why you dropped out of school. So what may be right for one person may not be right for you. Going back to school might be a really good thing, but if you cannot go back to school, please know that your future isn’t ruined. I am in college and it is going very well, and great jobs haven’t been an issue for me either!

Good luck! I hope this helps.

you need to complete all the required courses to get a ged. if you don’t complete them, you don’t get a ged. go back to school, it will be better for you in the long run. talk to the counselor at the school your going to and see what courses you need.
