Calling all ER Nurses- What’s the Working Conditions like?

I’m not intereseted in changing bed pans and giving baths so I’m thinking this will be a good area for me. Also, I only want to do nursing part-time. All responses are appreciated.

I’ve got news for ya….you’re going to be changing bedpans no matter what field of nursing you go into. ER is fast paced, exciting, you have to think on your feet, you never know what’s coming in your doors, you have to develop a close working relationship with the Docs, other nurses, and the paramedics. You’ll never be bored. But I promise you, you’ll NEVER get away from bedpans and baths.

Also, the ER is no place for a new graduate. Go pay your dues on a med/surg floor for about a year, get nice and comfortable with basic nursing care, then see what you want to do. If you can’t handle that, my advice is to stay out of nursing.

Sounds like you really don’t want to be a nurse….Just have the title!
