AP classes or going to an actual college?

Please help, my school has AP classes and buses going to a community college, what should I take? And what grade can you start taking both of these classes?

Your question is a little broad, but I will try to answer it in two parts. If you want to boost, inflate your high school GPA, then AP courses and performance in them can do that. That would be a good route to go. This will give you boosted statistics when you apply to a 4 year university.

2) If you are trying to get a jump start on college to save time then AP classes give you college credit but may not satisfy requisite General Education Classes required when you transfer to a 4 year university. You will get college units, but may still need to take those GE courses.

Community college courses are counted as lower division, or the first lower half of a “4 year” college transfer program if you choose one. If you take a community college course, not only will the units transfer, check the “articulation agreement” between the colleges you want to transfer to see if the course has an equivalent. I’ve found from personal experience that several community college courses in California are designed to transfer to CSU and UC and satisfy requirements so you don’t have to take them again, you don’t have that advantage with an AP course.

Well, I’m not sure as to what grade you can start taking those classes. If you are in a high school, I believe you can start taking classes at a community college.

I’m doing both.I’m taking AP Bio, AP Stats, AP us, and English 100 a community college. I guess it depends on the school, but my CC class is easier than my AP classes. If you want to boost your GPA take AP, but if you take AP you still have to take the AP test to be considered for college credit. If you take CC, the credit is already a college credit with out the dreaded AP test. Both look great on your transcript.

definitely take your AP classes. They are informative and look good on your transcript. When you apply to college, they care the most about what courses you take, this shows whether you are making a choice to work hard or do easy things.

If there is a community college course that is in your subject, you could take one, that also looks good on your transcript.

I took several APs and no college courses, and I got into a VERY good university.
