Anyone to relate to…?

following through with my namesake today I learned firsthand why to not put out liquid fires with water. Has anyone else learned this valuable lesson?

Liquid fires are really bad.

I saw a Chief Petty Officer run into the galley with a CO2 fire extinguisher to put out a grease fire. The fire was in, on and around a deep fat fryer.

You see this coming don’t you?

Yep. He put the nozzle down near the burning liquid and the next thing we know he was a casualty heading for the hospital with burns over his arms and face.

(Not quite the same as spreading it out with water, but a good point to make anyway.)

g-day!

No but I did once learn not to stick my head in a gas oven that had gone out and re-light it.
