I am a Station Manager for a trucking company. I have worked for the same company since 1986. First as a Truck Driver, 8 years later I became a Dispatcher, 4 years later Operations Manager, and current my position since 2003. I currently oversee 7 different terminals throughout the midwest region. I am paid salary and for what I do, I think I am underpaid. But I do my job to the best of my ability and the work ethic instilled in me by my parents is what drives me to be the best I can be.

I never realized when I started driving a truck, which is what I wanted to do, that now I would be in the position that I am in now. I am 43 and started driving a truck when I was 18. Alot in the industry has changed over the years. I do enjoy my job, but the difficult part is the Human Factor, my position requires me to be a psychologist, teacher and problem solver.

No longer are drivers consididered heroes of the highway. There are some great drivers that still have that natural human instinct to be kind and courteous. Unfortunately society has changed and you must be careful who you interact with out there on the highway. But a majority of drivers now just want money. You should see the applications I get and you’d be lucky to find one that has been with a company longer than 6 months.
