1) get rid of all fractions. so 14/7 is 2, and 3/3 is 1.

2) now you have x-2+x+1=x+5. simplified, this is 2x-1=x+5.

3)now you must add one on both sides to get 2x=x+6

4) subtract x on both sides.

5) So now you have x=6

Simplify the equation down to 2x=x+6…then divide both sides by x and you get 2=1+(6/x)….6/x=1….therefore, x=6
