How much pure water must be mixed with 3 pints of 90% developer to produce a mixture that is 17% developer???
please show work.

The method is straightforward, once you learn to think like developer. 🙂
First of all, note that you’re not changing the amount of developer. Therefore, you should compute the amount of developer you have: 90% of 3 pints. The other 10% is the starting amount of water.
Now, that amount of developer would be 17% of how much total solution? The difference between that and 3 pints is the amount of water you need to add.
