Because I have to define important I would say in the grand scheme of things they are NOT important. they have done some good but a the same time we could live without them.

As a matter of fact humans have lived without computers for thousands of years.

Food = important

Clothes = important

Shelter = important

Family = important

Friends = important

The wheel = helpful

cars = helpful

computers = helpful

2. To streamline efforts. For example, the National Lost & Missing Child registry, or the FBI fingerprint database.

3. To allow more business to be transacted. For example: a secretary doesn’t type the same letter over & over, but rather, he edits it to suit the occasion. So the business the secretary works for can get a lot more work out.
