why does h2o have to be in order?

well my teacher asked me to research it so i can get a free not to do science assignment so please help so i can learn and get free not to do homework and tell me the website you got it from please!!!!

The reason you say H2O and not OH2 has to do with the magnetic attraction of the elements – the strongest go first and the weaker tag along after. Hydrogen has a stronger magnetic pull than Oxygen does, so it goes first.

You shouldn’t need a website. Do you have a science book that talks about things like this? If so, it should tell you that any number that follows an element denotes the number of atoms in the compound. So if you put 02h, you would have two oxygens and I hydrogen, which would definitely NOT produce water! You need 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen to produce water.

It has to appear in that order because there are two atoms of hydrogen for every atom of oxygen.

That is why the “2” is after the “H”.
