Why are the Himalayas called “the rooftop of the world”?

If any one has the history behind this please help me and tell me or if you have any good place/ thing I can use that talks about this that would help too.

The Himalayas are called the roof or rooftop of the world because they contain the world’s highest mountains, like Everest, K-2, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and others that are famous because people like to climb them. (You know, like a roof is the highest part of the house.) I’m not sure there’s any history to the phrase other than climbers using it.

They are called tht because the himalayas have the largest mountain on earth: Mount Everest. Therefore, they are known as the top of the world.
