A right triangle with sides a & b and hypotenuse h

…|\

.a|..\ h

…|__\

…..b

h^2 = a^2 + b^2

h = hypotenuse of the triangle

a = length of one side or the triangle

b = length of the second side of a triangle

or

h = sqrt(a^2 + b^2)

stated, “the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the square root of the sums of the squares of the sides.”

Hope that helps.

The pythagorean theorem states that tthe sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs of a right triangle (a and b) is equal to the square of the length of the hypotenuse (c).

The formula is: a2* + b2* = c2*

* 2= squared for example: a2 = a SQUARED

a squared + b squared = c squared

where c is the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle with the other two sides a and b.

a squared + b squared= c squared.

c squared will be the hypotenuse sqaured, A and B are the two legs.
