When to use “I” and “me”?

Just checking:

How do you know which one to use…

*Example: My family and I…or…Me and my family

Is there a rule or something?

you use I for that.

the trick to check that is.. write the sentence:

my family and i went on a vacation.

now set the two subjects apart and put it with the rest of the sentence and see if it makes sense:

my family went on a vacation.

i went on a vacation.

check with me and my family:

me went on vacation. — grammatically incorrect.

my family went on vacation.

The correct way to say that would be “My family and I…” There is a rule about this.

It would be “My family and I”. Use “me” at the very end of a sentence (The dog barked at ME.)

If you are having trouble with the rules, take out the other people and see, does it sound right with I or me?

Example:

My family and I went to the store.

Me and my family went to the store.

My family and me went to the store.

Now try taking out “my family”:

I went to the store.

Me went to the store.

Me went to the store.

It’s obvious which it is, right? =)

It would be “My family and I.” Never put yourself in front of the noun. A good way to remember is the “good manner rule.” Allow others to go in front of you.

Just leave out the “my family” and see if I or me works in the sentence, if it makes sense.

My family and I will be going on vacation next week.

I will be going on vacation next week. (Me will not work here.)

Typically it’s considered repectful to say the other person or other party’s name(s) first, and then say I. In certain cases, “_____ and I” does sound odd, but is, nevertheless, correct.

Just think about it like this.

My family and __ went to the park.

Would you say:

Me went to the park?

or

I went to the park?

Obviously “I” so I hope that helps.

I like ♫ Rock Out ♫ ‘s answer.

You can not say “me and my family” or “my family and me”. You can only say “my family and I”.
