When to use “I” and “me”?
How do you know which one to use…
*Example: My family and I…or…Me and my family
Is there a rule or something?
Favorite Answer
the trick to check that is.. write the sentence:
my family and i went on a vacation.
now set the two subjects apart and put it with the rest of the sentence and see if it makes sense:
my family went on a vacation.
i went on a vacation.
check with me and my family:
me went on vacation. — grammatically incorrect.
my family went on vacation.

If you are having trouble with the rules, take out the other people and see, does it sound right with I or me?
Example:
My family and I went to the store.
Me and my family went to the store.
My family and me went to the store.
Now try taking out “my family”:
I went to the store.
Me went to the store.
Me went to the store.
It’s obvious which it is, right? =)
My family and I will be going on vacation next week.
I will be going on vacation next week. (Me will not work here.)
My family and __ went to the park.
Would you say:
Me went to the park?
or
I went to the park?
Obviously “I” so I hope that helps.
You can not say “me and my family” or “my family and me”. You can only say “my family and I”.
