-Pay attention when listening to the professor or teacher when talking. You must develop good listening skills.

-Do not get distracted.

-Before school get Organized: Do not take notes anywhere, so assign a notebook or such for Just Notes. Be sure you’ll have everything you’ll need.

-Before school also review the assignment for the day. Get into the subjet. Never -if all possible- enter the class cold, meaning without reviewing the subject or assignment.

-When taking notes, leave blank spaces in between.

-When in the classroom and Listening, Pay Attention when she/he do the following, meaning it is time To Take Notes:

1- Repeats points, dates, names, etc.

2- Emphasizing on dates, points, events, etc.

3- Do not forget to write down also Formulas, Facts and Key Words.

4- Organize your notes. For example: If talking about A.Lincoln, write your notes for Slavery on one page; when talking about Honesty in another page; Legacy on another page, etc… This way you won’t get so confused writing everything all mix up in a single page.

Great Notes are also written in different Lined Cards. Some of these packages come in different colors so makes the notes easier, choosing a color for every subject.

-Ask Questions. Never leave the classroom with questions in your mind.

-After Class (while your mind is fresh on the subject):

1- “Translate” your notes. So later you’ll know what The Key Words or Half Way Written Words or Sentences, etc, mean.

2- Clarify “every-single-note”.

3- Read and Review your notes. At this point you should understand everything you have Written, Clarified and Translated.

-(Read this. Take what is the very best way for you, and I wish you my very best.)-

Cornell notes is a system that a lot of students find helpful. It helps you organize your notes into specific information (which is where most lectures are), and then also into areas for questions, main points, and reflection (the most important part).

If you’re really looking into effective note taking strategies check the method out; modify it to match your needs. There is no magic pill, though, you have to work to make notes work for you.

As far as lectures go, jot down as much as you can! Anything and everything, really. Just bold/highlight/underline/whatever the important stuff [usually the most repeated or most vocally emphasized information] to make it easier on yourself when it comes time to study.

As for textbooks, I would highly recommend scanning the chapter and writing down key facts using the Cornelle note-taking system [which you can easily find examples of on Google].

Also, read over your notes often to help your mind retain information.

Take your notes, then when you get home, copy them again on another sheet of paper. That way, you’ll see and remember what you took down and be able to “connect the dots” better. Also, you can always highlight parts that you or the teacher says is really important so when you glance at your paper, you’ll see the highlighed part quickly. Hope this helps.

It really depends on how you learn best. I have photographic memory– well, i don’t actually have it, but it’s better than me listening or acting it out.

You may use several techniques. Take the dry-notes. WRite whatever you think is important. Then, to memorize the material– depending on how you learn best– read it over, write it over, act it out, picture a unique way to memorize it, recite aloud.

#1 rule is to write down everything that the prof writes on the board/puts on overhead/says “this will be on the test”…. when taking notes from book basically make an outline of the chapter with all the key points/terms
