A canyon. Trust me, I live next to one. Or you can call it a gorge. But canyon is more common.

a levee or a loch?
the levee is the part that seperates water from land.
the loch is a part of a channel or canal that can be closed off, to stair-step the water around a dam or a fall or something.

-edit- yeah canyon makes sense, for whatever reason I was picturing a body of water next to another body of water seperated by the walls…. i guess it’s in there, i just didn’t see it.
