I agree, hypothesis is an educated guess, you can arrive in two hypothesis:

Regular interaction with pets improve the health of the elderly.

and,

Regular interaction with pets does not improve the health of the elderly.

not really sure. an hypothesis is an educated guess. so maybe just turn the words aroud and say regular interaction with pets improves the health of the elderly.

You need actual data. Count you mussels. Keep your mussels in a safe place. Add (note how many) of the zebra mussels. You may not be able to do this unless you do it on a beach, their natural environment.
