An added responsibility? Didn’t know there was a code of rules and responsibilities for scientists either before or after the industrial revolution.Or today, for that matter. Science is about investigating how things happen, and trying to replicate nature. It’s about understanding our world. If you are thinking about the ‘mad scientist’ issue, they exist largely in the minds of fiction writers.

Safety first.
They were responsible to the workers, that they not be injured by technological advances. They had to be sure the workers knew exactly how to use the new machinery.
They had to be sure work conditions were safe as far as any things like air pollution, corrosive materials, and manufacturing machines went.
Housing. ??
The industrial revolution caused a great movement from rural areas to cities, changing the face of society. Scientists had a hand in being sure workers had a roof over their heads by devising ways to house them. ( ?? )
