Literature helps you understand the world around you – literature involves people relationships and are based around real experiences. It may also help you understand other cultures that you don’t have much access to.
Literature helps you understand the language better. You’ll know more vocabulary to help you function in the real world. Literature (simply reading in general) also helps you to write better. There are NO high-education jobs where you will not know how to read and write on complicated subjects.
Literature is different for many people. It can be an escape into another world other than your own. It can help broaden your imagination. It can inspire you and teach you life lessons. You might learn how to think from someone else’s perspective. You can ask any number of people why they like literature, and they will give you many different answers.
If you think taking literature classes is a chore, then when you have a real job, going through a lot of paperwork, reading documents, or writing something, then you will wish that you had taken your literature classes more seriously. They will help you a lot more than you think. 😉
