There are two ways.

1) Divide sqrt(7) by sqrt(12)=2.6457/3.4641=0.7637

2) Divide 7/12 and take the square root.=sqrt(0.5853)=0.7637

you’ll need a calculator.

7/12 must be converted to a decimal which equals 0.5833333

Using a calculator hit the square root function and the answer is: 0.763762594004184

There is an online calculator at website: http://www.math.com/students/calculators/source/square-root.htm

It also has instructions for manually calculating the answer. It is very easy and well explained.

Hope this helps.

a radical is not considered simplified if there is a radical in the denominator, or either the numerator or denominator has a perfect square factor. in your case, sq rt 7 is an irrational number, so leave it alone. in the denominator, you can write sq rt 12 as sq rt 4 * sq rt 3. 4 is a perfect square, so it’s root is 2.

you still have sq rt 3 in the denominator — you can’t leave it there, so multiply both numerator and denominator by sq rt 3

your numerator is now sq rt 7 times sq rt 3, which is equivalent to sq rt 21, another irrational number, so leave that alone.

your denominator is 2 times 3 or 6

the final answer is sq rt 21/ 6

first put all of the fraction under the sqr rt. then make it “sq rt of 7” over “sqr rt of 12”. you can’t have a radical in the denominator, so multiply by “sqr rt of 12 over sqr rt of 12” (which is equal to 1). that will give you sqr rt of 7 times 12 all over 12. (sqr rt of 84)/12. the factors of 84 are 3, 4, and 7. therefore, the answer is 2(sqr rt of 21)/12. if simplified, the answer is sqr rt of 21 over 6.

neither 7 nor 12 are perfect squares, so you can do anything. just put a radical sign over the whole fraction and that is the answer
