the better the economy the more likly the people will care about the enviroment and demand protections. in the united states in the early 20’s teh economy was booming but so was enviromental degradation, that is why they had passed regulations on polluates, clean water and clear air acts etc. People had money for a good education and people who were creative, engineers, scientists from around the world were attracted to united states due to the wealth building they could get. so they helped devise technologies that help us to have progress and yet minimize enviromental affects as much as possible. Private property equals wealth and property(aka enviroment) protection.

Look at countries with neither wealth, private property rights or the ability to clamor their governments to protect the enviroment. to get laws passed to hold corporations and individuals responsible for damage they do to other’;s private property or to commons property like water and air.

in china there is neither private property rights, nor influence in governments, nor freedom of religion, thought, and little wealth. Look at their enviroment. it is a mess big time. their air quality sucks, they have a huge rise in respiratory diseases, you should see pictures of the lakes and streams, it is disgracefull. and the trash everywhere was aweful.

people have to wear masks. they have no parks to speak of, and the people are crammed like sardines, and this doesn’t help the enviroment as the pollution load from wastes and such is too high for the land to deal with.

I can imagine what other health problems they are having too. cancer big time?? maybe heart disease due to oxidant damage?

lake erie used to be a sewer decades ago, but it is alot cleaner now of course now they have problems with introduced species. . Same in other areas, parks were demanded by people for use as recreation but with protecting the ecology in mind.

but in areas where people are poor you have degradation to the superior degree but hungry people are not worried about cutting trees, or killing endangered animals, they aer concerned about getting enough of their own needs cared for.and they don’t have the education too to clamor for more controls on pollution and land over use. the best protection for the enviroment thus far is people who have private property rights with wealth the comes with it. these will protect their own, and if everyone has property they own they will do the same and thus it would be a collective protection without government interference.

Relationship Between Environment And Economy

Humm excellent question, thanks that made me think.

If you think to the bases of our economy, and what are economy used to be based on, you will realise that everything has to do with the environment.

What are our basic needs, and how do they reflect on the environment.

We need:

Clothes

Shelter

Food

Clothes come from the environment, building materials come from the environment and so does food. Now lets think of how we have complicated these issues, in a sense, now we have restaurants. What does a restuarant need. We have manufacturing plants to make housing materials, clothes and food, think of what a manufacturing plant needs.

I think that will give you an idea of how the two concepts are related.
