Given some statistic data, for example how much money the government spent for several subjects, the pie chart shows you the data in a round pie-cake-like graphic, while the histogram strings together the data in the way of colums.

In the pie chart each subject (in the example) usually get a color and a piece of cake sized by the precentage of all money spent.

In the histogram the height of the colums indicate the amount (or percentage) of each subject. Different colors are possible but not necessary.

The pie chart might be favored for percentages and the histogramm for absolute numbers, but this is not always true.
