what is the difference between a factor and a prime factor and how do you do both of them?

how do you find the prime factors and factors

i know how to do factor trees.

i think prime factors are the ones at the bottom of prime factor trees like for example if u had 36 the bottom would say 2x3x2x3 if you did 6 times 6 which the next step is 2×3

You are absolutely correct.

FACTORS are two numbers that when multiplied together, result in the desired answer.

PRIME FACTORS are the series of prime numbers you would have to multiply to get the same answer.

Prime factors are just factors that are also prime numbers. So 3 is a prime factor of 12 while 6 is just a factor of it.

Lets take 24 the factors are

1,2,3,4,6,8,12 and 24

the prime factors are the prime number of those

2 and 3 are prime factors because they are prime numbers
