“extrinsic” means: 1. not essential or inherent; not a basic part or quality; extraneous: facts that are extrinsic to the matter under discussion.
2. being outside a thing; outward or external; operating or coming from without: extrinsic influences. (dictionary.com)
“intrinsic” means: belonging to a thing by its very nature: [for example the intrinsic value of a gold ring.]
So, depending on your context, “extrinsic” factors would be anything that affects something from the outside of it. For example, say you are a soccer player and you have a game on Saturday.
Extrinsic factors that might prevent you from playing that game are the weather, or your mom’s car breaks down and you don’t make it to the game, or your parents make you go to a family reunion that day instead, or if the other team doesn’t show up. Those have nothing to do with YOU, they are just events that happened.
Intrinsic factors that might keep you from playing are: you are the goalie and afraid of diving for the ball so you don’t play, or you decide that you really want to go to the family reunion because you haven’t seen your cousins in a year, or you decide to go to your best friend’s birthday party instead. These factors are more based on how you feel, what you think, or what you do.
Those examples should help; you gotta come up with the rest. 😉
