Your best bet might be to pick something instrumental—no one singing lyrics to distract your mind from the task at hand. You may have to try some different types and tempos, but try to avoid any song with lyrics. Classical music is a good start, but not everyone enjoys classical so you might try something from the New Age genre (although be careful that it’s not too “spa-like” or it may relax you to sleep)! I have a CD of instrumental Spanish guitar that plays an upbeat tempo with a little percussion and it perks me up while I’m cleaning house, cooking, and concentrating on a task. It’s called “Mediterranean Nights” and I purchased it at one of those generic CD kisok things at Bed, Bath and Beyond–they often have instrumental CDs of different varieties (Asian-inspired sounds, Jazzy-Big Band music, etc.).

I always find that ‘The Mixed Tape’ by Jack’s Mannequin is great to listen to while trying to do homework. It is a great song that keeps me motivated, but not distracted. Hope this helps 🙂

Put a classical music station on the radio. It’s just interesting enough to be tolerable background music. But it doesn’t demand your full attention and there are no lyrics to get stuck in your head.

iTunes has a playlist called “study jams” try googling it or searching for it on iTunes. My favorite song on the list is “Hey Girl” by O.A.R. Easy to listen to while doing some hw 🙂
