What does the ! symbol in math mean?
Favorite Answer
Kidding …
The symbol “!” is the “factorial” … when you see it after a number it means that you need to take the product from 1 to that number. In other words, 5! is read “five factorial” and in a problem you multiply:
1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 = 120
3! is:
1 x 2 x 3 = 6
Some calculators have the factorial on a key and will do the calculation automatically.
Hope that helps.
4! = 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24
10! = 10 x 9 x 8 x 7 x 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 3628800
etc.
6!: 1*2*3*4*5*6= 720
In mathematics, the factorial of a non-negative integer n is the product of all positive integers less than or equal to n.
So basically you take whatever number it is and do what i did with 5! and 6! and if its in a equation solve it first example:
5!*6x
it would be (1*2*3*4*5) * 6x
Do the math and its 120 * 6x then you would solve the equation
Hope this helps!
4! = 4*3*2*1=24
9! = 9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1
It is used in statistics and probabilities
So, if you see 5!, it really is 5x4x3x2x1
so 3! is 3x2x1
and 6! is 6x5x4x3x2x1
