What do you think?

Okay, I have this question for a scholarship.

“Please formulate a question about an issue of current or enduring significance about which thoughtful people disagree. Then in an essay approximately 600 present your analysis of the issue you have raised and your response to the question.”

I was thinking of doing a war question… Too cliche?

Do you think the troops should be pulled out of Iraq before the initial goal is accomplished?

Do you have any suggestions of questions or topics which you think I should explore?

Is a lasting democracy in Iraq possible without US troop presence? or even with US troop presence?

I’d go with something different:

Does the US Constitution mean what it says or what we want it to say? This gets into judical activism, and also judical selection process.

Should election campaigns be publicly funded? This can get into whether extremists should receive public funds in order to eliminate the perception that major candidates are being bought.

Should there be limits on contributions to election campaigns? Is this denying people free speech?

War questions are never too cliche because wars are so invasive (no pun intended) and have such horrific effects – not only on local populations but around the world – that they are too genuine to be cliche.

Your question about pulling out before the initial goal is accomplished would be an interesting one – you could outline the initial goal and trace the changes that have occurred in policy over the course of the engagement, until it reaches a point where the war presently being fought bears little relationship to the war that was originally being fought.

It’s a worthy topic for a scholarship essay – good luck with it.

If you are wanting highly controvercial then yes by all means go for that one. You could also go for the death penalty now that Texas has added another reason to kill to the agenda and if I wasn’t for it already this new one would have sinched me in. Child molesters 2nd and 3rd offenders can now be executed. YEE HAW Texas
