What are the uses of key signatures?

The key signature tells the musician who is reading the piece what key it is written in. By reading the key signature, the accompliched musician knows how to transpose the piece into a different key, if he/she so desires. By reading the key signature, the musician can immediately tell what flats or sharps he/she can expect to encounter while playing the piece.

So you don’t have to add a sharp and flat sign to every note when you’re writing in B-natural.
