please help my son has homework and im not sure what the two main famillies are HELP!

Metals are electron donators, but there are transition elements which may either accept or donate their electrons. Some metals may have different valences such as +2 or +3. I am not a chemist, but those transition elements do at times act like metals, and this group is what I think your son is referring to as the other family of metals.

Ferrous and non -ferrous metals? Ferrous contains iron, non -ferrous being copper, silver, gold etc.
