Old English- related to German. Spoken by the various tribes of England prior to the Normans conquoring England.

Middle English- This is where the Norman and Saxon influence comes in.

Elizabethan English- The language as spoken during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. Shakespear’s poems are a prime example.

Modern English is how English is spoken in Enland today.

America speaks a slight variant commonly referred to as American English. This is because since America gained here independece from England the language has evolved and continues to evolve from the English spoken in 1776.

To compare and contrast them I suggest you pick a word and show how it evolved over time.

Example: A person from England will say ” I need to get back to my flat” while an American will say ” I need to get back to my apartment.” Both mean the same thing but the language has evolved and changed since America won its independance.

Old English is what was spoken before the Norman conquest. If you listen to it sounds more German than English. Middle English has a lot of French in it. Try reading Chaucer in the original. Elizabethan English is Shakespeare or the King James Bible. Modern English is today.

Sure, and what will you be doing while I do your homework for you? You can google up each of those terms and get as concise explaination of each one. You’ll have to compare and contrast by yourself, however.

You would probably be unable to read old English, because it uses many words that are Norman and Saxon.

Differences:

1. spelling

2. pronounciation

3. syntax

4. morphology

5. definitions (meanings)

Languages are dynamic r they stagnate and die. The rest of your homework you need to do yourself.
