A low unemployment rate means that very few people are looking for employment. Those who have looked for jobs and could not find them could have stopped looking. These people are no longer counted in the unemployment figures.

Low unemployment means that it may be difficult for the employers to find qualified workers.

Low unemployment may lead to inflation. This is because the laws of supply and demand work for wages too.. With few people looking for jobs the employer in order to obtain the necessary workers need to raise salaries. The increase in salaries would ordinarily be added to the price of the goods produced or sold. An increase in price is inflationary.

Well one of the disadvantages is the fact that the rate is so low because it includes the ever-increasing number of people in casual, part-time and contract employment, who may work as little as 3 hours a week
