advantages – more funding (possiby) if backed by private owner or company and not subject to state/natl. funding or lack thereof, larger ratio of inmates to officers – more specialized attention and smaller chance of fights/riots breaking out, with the larger funding – more specialized programs to help inmates build career skills to reduce recidivism

disadvantages – because they are not as thoroughly regulated by state/natl govt, if programs were not up to speed or in a state of danger or bad things were goin on, would be less likely to be known and rectified – such as drug acticity profiting private owners
