Advantages

This is not an exhaustive list

The people had the freedom to set rules for themselves. Look at the Bill of Rights in the US Constitution & think what life might have been like without any of those rights.

You could copy each of the rights into your folder, as some of the advantages.

For example, Freedom of Religion.

back then, if you were not the right religion & I don’t mean Christian Jew Muslim Buddhist Athiest, I mean a particular brand of Protestantism … wrong religion gets you tortured to death

so getting freedom to worship God the way our religious teachings say should be done, that was a very important advantage of winning the American Revolution

The POTATO FAMINE in Ireland was deliberately caused by English land owners, in fear of Britain having event like the French Revolution. This led to huge wave of Irish immigrants to America. Now had there been no successful American Revolution, the Irish would have had no place to escape to, and might have been wiped out as a people. After the English came to their senses, many Irish immigrants returned to the home country.

Perhaps if there had never been an American Revolution & the British Empire behavior such that people in the colonies all hated the homeland, and British Monarchy never learning from America and India of the importance of decent treatment for the colonies not yet in revolt, when the World Wars came along, Britain would have lost, because the colonies would have gone over to the side of the Nazis

Look at the effect of the Marshall Plan after WW II. America’s separation from the wars of Europe and Asia meant she had sufficient independence to help rebuild the world afterwards.

Colonies in rebellion from the homeland has meant a new kind of politics … nations with interests other than conquering their neighbors. The world has become a better place because of that.

Disadvantages

===========

This is not an exhaustive list.

self-rule is hard work to get it right. people could just be slaves to a government that at the time was a dictatorship of one person’s whims and religion

After the British lost the American Revolution, they tried again in the War of 1812. A lot of people died or were tortured. War is hell. It all could have been avoided.

Just think if we had not fought WW II … instead of 6 million jews died, it might have been 300 million Americans … sometimes it is more expensive not to have the war

Not everyone at the time was in favor of the Revolution

1/3 of the people wanted to fight

1/3 wanted to keep British rule (the Tories)

1/3 were too apathetic to give an opinion

I do not believe polling was as scientific back then, and even today it is flawed

Well after the revolution, the winners were pretty angry at the Tories & what they did has kind of fallen out of a lot of history books … but we still have what happened to the losers of the American Civil War … basically they were discriminated against, on steroids

The Tories fled to Canada, out of fear of their lives

When you see how much of the Canadian population exploded due to the Tories refugees from USA, and the kinds of war crimes done during the War of 1812, when the USA invaded Canada, large segments of Canadian population lived in fear that USA might invade again some day, and this poisoned relations between North American nations

Me unsure

When & why did slavery end in European culture, America, etc? Had America not had successful revolution against Britain, might Britain still today be trading in slaves?

You’re lacking the only man or woman who on the whole had the finest final result at the War of Independence, definitely from the British factor of view, and that character is George Germain George Germain used to be Secretary of State for America, who as a former soldier believed he new precisely learn how to combat the conflict in spite of having no suggestion of the geography or terrain and his insistence of giving designated navy instructional materials that are supposed to be applied to the letter. He were court docket martialled as a soldier (in spite of a extraordinary profession at the battlefield) and believed gambling a huge side within the profitable of a conflict for Britain could cast off that stain from his navy carrier. He gave no alternative for any variety of peace fee from both part. His interference crippled such a lot of what British commanders might do.
