Wow, that’s nice, a compare-and-contrast!

Well, it really depends on what your goal is. Is it to contrast more? Or to compare more? Is it to show how they are alike more? Or to show how different they are?

If you want to contrast them more, or show how different they are, I suggest that for the first few paragraphs show how very ALIKE they are, and then at the last few paragraphs contrast them so strongly that your readers are left with a good impression on what you want to impart. When I mean ‘strong’, use absolute adverbs and adjectives, like “absolutely, whole-heartedly, without any doubt, etc…”

If you want to compare them, or show how alike they are, I suggest starting out the with showing how DIFFERENT they are; just quite the opposite of contrasting them.

You could really do alot! Hope this helps.

The horror writer Clive Barker would begin some short stories with a sort of poetic introduction, setting the scene, the season, the feel of the era etc. So a simple poem, giving clues to the story ahead might help, it doesnt have to be complicated or fancy. You could even take an old nursery rhyme and re-work it to start your story, as long as it is relevant, with a few dots at the end, like this… …opening sentence after poem begins like this. Perhaps it could be a thought in someone’s head. Or the poem above springing to mind of the person you are about to write about.
