We’re doing the slope intercept form in class and I was wondering if someone could help me.?
So would it be Y – 0.5 = 7 (x – -3)
Y = 7x + – 21
Would that be right? I’m really bad at math and I’m getting a tutor next week but I was just wondering if someone could tell me if that’s right, or on the right track.

m = 1/2 and contains the points (7, -3)
You didn’t specify what your goal was, but I’m going to assume that it is getting the equation in slope-intercept form.
Firstly, do the point-slope form.
y + 3 = 1/2(x – 7)
I don’t want to bother myself with that fraction, so I will just eliminate it by multiplying everything by 2.
2y + 6 = x – 7
Now, get 6 on the other side.
2y = x – 13
Finally, divide both sides by 2 to get y by itself.
y = 1/2x – 13/2
There’s your answer. AND, here’s an important part, your mistake.
You were obviously doing the point-slope form. Here’s what the equation for point-slope looks like:
y – y1 = m(x – x1)
To do this, first, you have m. m = 1/2, so do this:
y – y1 = 1/2(x – x1)
Next, you have to plug in the points. Remember, don’t do anything to the x or y without the 1 attached to them.
(7, -3)
.x….y…
So the first number is x, and the second is y.
Plug that in.
y – (-3) = 1/2(x – 7)
There. That’s where you were wrong.
y – 0.5 = 7(x- -3)
you distribute the 7, so it leaves you with
y – 0.5 = 7x +21 ——- subtracting a negative # is the same as adding a positive one
then you just add 0.5 to both sides which leaves you with
y = 7x + 21.5
that’s what i got but you were very close
so wouldnt that make it y+3=0.5(x-7) ?? you are confusing me??
isn’t 0.5=m or…………….
