SPANX, Inc. is a U.S. company which mainly manufactures footless pantyhose and other undergarments for women, particularly “body shaping” undergarments designed to give the wearer a slim and shapely appearance. The company’s products are merketed to fit contemporary female lifestyles and fashion trends.
Company founder Sara Blakely received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2002, and appeared on FOX’s 2004 reality television show titled The Rebel Billionaire: Branson’s Quest for the Best. She has also appeared on the second season of American Inventor as a panel judge. She is a member of the Atlanta chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization.

Sara Blakely, she was a copier and fax machine door-to-do saleswoman. She invented spanx when she cut the toes out of a pair of pantyhose so that she could wear open-toed shoes. That was in 1998. She also got a patent in 1998. In 2000 she was able to convince a mill to create a pair of footless pantyhose. From there it has grown immensely.
