The first two statements have been answered (mostly) correctly, so I’ll address the third point.

Egyptian hieroglyphs were primarily used to write Old Egyptian and Middle Egyptian. Basically, they were used from ~3000 BCE to Greek times. The last hieroglyphic inscription was carved at the Temple of Philae around 400 CE, so the hieroglyphic system of writing had a lifetime of nearly 3500 years!

Although not nearly as difficult to learn as the previous poster suggested (there were many scribes, and virtually everything was recorded), hieroglyphs take a long time to write. For this reason, Egyptian scribes invented a cursive form known as hieratic. Hieratic is nearly as old as the hieroglyphic script. Hieratic eventually simplified even further into the demotic script, which can be pretty difficult to read (basically a bunch of squiggles and commas).

Hieratic and demotic were used for day to day writing (letters, receipts, court rulings, etc.), so hieroglyphs were reserved for important monuments. Tomb inscriptions were usually written and painted in hieroglyphs, and hieroglyphs were often carved into furniture or scarabs. Most notably, hieroglyphs were carved into temple walls. These inscriptions are incredibly important because they’re about important historical events. For example, much of what we know about the battle between the Eygptians and the Hittites comes from the inscriptions of Ramesses II. Many ancient civilizations collapsed at the end of the Bronze Age (Cyprus, the Hittites, the Mycenaeans, and others), and it was an Egyptian inscription that gave archaeologists an important clue about invading “Sea Peoples” that attacked various Mediterranean countries. Hieroglyphic inscriptions have given information about Egyptian religion, mythology, trade, history, medicine, and much more. Understanding the Egyptian script allows archaeologists to reconstruct every part of Egyptian life, from the food they ate to the gods they worshipped.

1) the pyramids and rest of the egyptian architecture did provide jobs for many people who otherwise would not have anything to do. There were a lot of artiisans, sculptors and laborers involved. All the temples and statues kept people busy and paid too. So the same can be said about pyramids. I don;t believe that the pyramids contributed to any religious thought. They were simply large and intricate tomb buildings.

2)Irrigation is important in any civilization involved with agriculture. The ability to divert water into the correct fields and in the correct amount is paramount. In order to grow crops properly the water run-off control flow was necessary. I am not sure how successful the egytipians were at this. I believe they planted near the river when it was low and harvested before the floods returned or something like that.

3)Hieroglyphics are crazy. In my opinion Hierglyphics were an incomplete language understood by 2-3 people when it was originated. In fact the idea comes from one guy. This is what I gathered over the years. The vast majority of people were illiterate. There were times in Egypt when civilization was at it’s highest point. however noone had the patience to learn to read and hyroglyphics were used by a handful. In fact people used to laugh at hier0glyphics. if you want a better idea of hiergylphics and civilization…learn them…….GOOD LUJCK

I definitely agree with the answerer before me. Though people, would you PLEASE not advice wikipedia as a reliable source? It isn´t because everybody can edit anytime – no reliability, never. It can be a good starting point though to get a first idea – and find out about other sources. Reliable sources are university pages, your local library etc.

Which task to choose is basically up to you – which do you think you could write the best paper on? There´s really no way anybody here could take that away from you… 🙂
