Statistics question: How do you convert standard scores into percentiles and vice versa?
Favorite Answer
a standard score of 1.645 is the 90 percentile
a standard score of 1.96 is the 95 percentile
a standard score of -1.96 is the 5th percentile, etc
The pth percentile is a value p such that 90% of the data (or possible values) are less than or equal to p.
the CDF for the Standard Normal is the table you need to do this.
take 17/67 to get decimal .1492537313
use the first three digits of the decimal .149
multiuply by 100 to get percentage .149 *100 = 14.9%
ex: 18.3% students out of 93 students questioned feel that standarized testing is great.
take 18.3/100 to get .183
.183 x 93 = 17.01 appox 17 students
