Solve the following system of equations?

x + 9y = 5 (1)

x = 6 -9y (2)

What is the solution of the system?

Many ways to do this, but I think the easiest would be substitution, since x is already isolated in one of them.

So replace x in the first equation with the def. of x from the second. You end up with 6-9y+9y=5

Which is basically 6=5

Your answer is no solution.

combine like terms

6 = 5

NO SOLUTION

or do it this way

x = 5 – 9y

x = 6 -9y

multiply one by -1 and add the two equations together

1+ 0 = 0

1= 0

STILL, NO SOLUTION
