the equation is
2x-3y=12
please help me. its confusing me so much
how do i solve for y. please give me step by step answers so i can understand better.
thank you !!!
Favorite Answer
Subtract 2x from both sides
-3y = 12 – 2x
Divide thru by 3
-y = 4 – (2/3)x
Multiply both sides by -1
y = -4 + (2/3)x or y = (2/3)x – 4
.
2. 2x-12=3y ( subtract 12 from both sides)
3. 2/3x -4=y (divide by 3 to both sides)
4. Voila!
here’s how it works
it’s basically a two part problem
in the first problem you substitute X for 0 so it’s 2(0)-3y=12
and then it ends up as [Y=-4]
the second problem you have to substitute Y for 0 and so it’s
2x-3(0)=12 and the answer is [X=6]
i hope this is the kind of problem you’re talking about.
if not, sorry.
subract 2x from both sides.
-3y= 12-2x
divide both sides by -3.
y= 12/(-3) – 2x/(-3)
reduce.
y= -4+2/3x
Subtract 2x from both sides
-3y=12-2x
Divide both sides by -3
y=-4+(2/3)x
You could also write this as
y=(2/3)x-4
-2x -2x
-3y=12-2x
make variable positive
3y = -12 +2x
divide by 3
y= -4 +2x/3
that’s it 😀
-3y=12-2x
3y=-12+2x=2x-12
y=(2x-12)/3
y = 2/3x-4
